File corrections

Help understanding and addressing layout issues or printer rejection reports in existing book files.

A clear route through technical problems.

Share the specific error report and describe the files you have. We assess the cause before agreeing a correction. Printer acceptance depends on the final file and the platform’s review.

What’s included

  • Review of the actual rejection report
  • Assessment of available editable source files
  • A defined correction scope before work begins
  • Updated files and a record of changes

Your quotation lists the exact deliverables, revision rounds, price and schedule before any work begins.

Who this service suits

You have a specific problem with an existing book file: a printer warning, a misplaced caption, a margin problem or a defined set of production changes. This service starts with the actual file and the exact issue. A clear correction list lets us distinguish a contained repair from a larger redesign before quoting.

What to send

Send the affected PDF and its editable source if you have it. Include the printer’s exact error message, the edition specification and the page numbers involved. A screenshot can help explain the problem, but the original file is needed to assess it properly. Do not supply your publishing password.

List each requested change in one document or in the project’s proof notes. Use the PDF page number as well as the printed page number when they differ. Mark whether a correction is text, layout, image or printer-related, and identify which version should be treated as current.

How we work through your book

We assess whether the problem can be repaired within the existing file and agree the scope before proceeding. Some PDFs preserve editable text; others do not. If fonts, linked art or source files are missing, we explain what can be done with the material available.

After the agreed changes, we check the affected pages and any nearby content that may have moved. A small text addition can change pagination, so the contents and cover count may also need review. You receive a new proof version to compare against the correction list.

Your finished files

The quotation states which corrected files will be returned and which checks are included. Keep the previous files as a record, but upload only the clearly named approved version. If the printer reports another issue, send the exact message so we can distinguish a related correction from additional work.

Schedule and quotation

Standard turnaround for this service is 2–3 business days from receipt of the final manuscript and images. Delivery within 24 hours (next day) is available with a 25% rush charge. Your quotation confirms the start, delivery time, scope and revision rounds before work begins.

The starting price above is a guide to the service, not a promise that every manuscript has the same production needs. The estimator uses your word count, images and selected services to help you plan. Send the brief when you are ready for a fixed quotation. There is no need to attach your manuscript to the first inquiry; project files can be supplied through your private Author Desk once the project is set up.

Questions about this service

Can every PDF be edited directly?

No. The available source, embedded fonts and file structure affect what can be changed reliably. We review the file before promising a particular repair.

Is proofreading included?

A defined production correction is different from proofreading the whole manuscript. Identify the changes you want or discuss a broader scope before work begins.

What if the fix changes the page count?

The interior and cover must remain matched. We flag the effect on the spine or other linked files so the necessary work can be agreed.
