Book design and production

What we make.

From a first novel to a picture book, we give your words and images a considered place on the page. Here are the books we design, the files we prepare and what to send us.

Find your book

Books we design.

Tell us how the book will be read and used. We agree the layout and show you a sample before setting the full book.

Stories and life writing

Novels, memoirs, short stories and poetry.

Indented prose, lower chapter openings, running heads and page numbers; verse keeps its line breaks.

Nonfiction and business

Nonfiction and business books.

Consistent headings, tables, footnotes and contents that help readers find their way.

Picture and illustrated

Picture books, photo books, cookbooks and coloring books.

Images, captions and recipes placed with care, including artwork that reaches the page edge.

Practical books

Journals and planners.

Writing space and repeatable page layouts shaped around how the book will be used.

Large print

Books for readers who need bigger type.

Larger type and generous line spacing, with page size and margins checked for the finished edition.

Formats we deliver.

  • Print-ready PDF interiors for paperback and hardcover books.
  • Paperback wrap covers (front, spine and back in one file).
  • Case laminate covers (printed artwork wrapped around the hard cover) and dust jackets (removable paper covers).
  • Reflowable eBooks in EPUB format, where text adjusts to the reader’s screen and type size.

We confirm the exact editions and files in your quotation.

Where your book can be printed.

We prepare files for Amazon KDP and IngramSpark using each platform’s current published specifications and official cover templates for the selected edition.

Paper, binding, page count and language affect the available options. We confirm the route before work begins. For another printing platform, ask us.

You upload through your own publishing account. The platform makes the final decision on acceptance.

Checks before you upload.

Before you see the files, we check them against the selected printer’s rules. You receive a written check report covering:

  • Page size and margins, including space at the binding.
  • Bleed (artwork extending past the cut edge so no white edge shows).
  • Fonts included in the file, image sharpness and colour settings.
  • Cover size, spine width and space around important text.

The report records issues and any checks that need further review. You review the proof before final release.

Give the page room.

Drag across the page, or use the arrow keys. The marked version illustrates a common margin problem; the corrected page is our actual Austen sample.

Corrected Pride and Prejudice chapter opening with generous margins.

Before: an illustrated fault. After: a page typeset by Ink and Purpose Books, using Jane Austen’s public-domain text.

Languages we lay out.

Our published studio books include English and Spanish editions.

We also support Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi and Chinese layouts, including right-to-left pages for Arabic and Hebrew. These layouts need review by a native speaker before approval.

We confirm the typeface, reading direction and printer’s language support for your edition. Layout is separate from translation.

A good starting point

What to send us.

A final Word document is preferred. Google Docs exported to Word, RTF, Markdown or plain text also work.

An existing PDF can be checked, but it is not a fully editable source. Send the original manuscript too, if you have it.

  • Your images at their original size, with captions and permission to use them.
  • Your book’s language, intended page size, printer and paperback or hardcover choice.
  • Cover artwork and wording, if cover preparation is included.
  • Any printer rejection report, layout references and your preferred delivery date.

You can begin with a short brief. The manuscript comes later through your private Author Desk.
