Free Book Page Count Estimator for Manuscript Planning
Estimate a book’s length from word count, trim size, type size and images. Compare planning options before layout, then use the finished PDF for your cover.
02 · Page count
How many pages will it be?
A planning estimate for a text-led book. The real count comes from the finished layout.
Includes about 10 pages of front and back matter, rounded to an even number.
Generous spacing, many chapters or dialogue-heavy text can add 10–20%. Use the result with the cover calculator below.
How it works
This is our planning model, not a printer specification. It starts at 300 words per page for 6 × 9 inches at 11 point, scales by estimated text area and type size, adds 0.75 page per image and ten pages for front and back matter, then rounds to an even number.
A worked example
At the default 75,000 words, 6 × 9 inches, 11 point and no images, the model gives 260 pages: 250 text pages plus ten additional pages. Chapter breaks and dialogue may change the finished count.
Before you use the result
No KDP or IngramSpark page-count formula is used here. Poetry, tables, workbooks and picture books can differ greatly. Check the printer’s permitted range for the exact format; use the final interior PDF count for a cover.
