Keep a specification for each edition
The same book can use more than one printing platform, but the file names should make their destination unmistakable. Record the platform, binding, trim, ink, paper and final page count for each version.
Some interior decisions may carry across. Cover dimensions need particular care because the spine depends on the printer’s paper and construction. Do not assume that a cover accepted by one platform is ready for another.
Export to the receiving printer’s requirements
IngramSpark’s file-creation guide recommends PDF/X-1a:2001 or PDF/X-3:2002 and specifies embedded fonts, appropriate image resolution and separate interior and cover files. Check its current guide against your chosen product before export. KDP has its own submission requirements.
A preset name alone does not prove that a file is correct. Check the exported dimensions, fonts, image quality and page order. Remove production notes or template guides that should not print. Keep the editable source so a correction can be made cleanly.
Generate the cover after pagination settles
Use each platform’s official cover template for the final page count and exact book options. Keep those templates with the delivery files. If a late correction changes pagination, regenerate the template and check the wrap again.
Ask whether your cover brief includes one printer or both. Preparing a second version can involve more than changing a file name, especially where the binding or trim differs.
Upload and prove each version
You remain the account holder and upload the files yourself. Review each platform’s preview separately and order a physical proof for each edition you intend to publish. Acceptance by an upload checker is not the same as approval of the reading experience.
If an error appears, copy the exact message and the affected page number. Our print-preparation and file-correction services can work from a defined specification or a specific problem. We do not need your publishing password.
