Free Image DPI Checker for Book Photos and Illustrations
Check the effective resolution of an image at its intended print size. Enter pixels and inches locally, with no upload, and see whether it reaches 300 PPI.
01 · Image resolution
Will it print clearly?
Enter the image’s pixel size and the size it will print. No upload needed.
Meets the common 300 PPI target for photos and illustrations.
Uses the lower of the horizontal and vertical resolution. A guide, not a printer certification. Never enlarge an image to raise its PPI: it adds pixels, not detail.
How it works
Divide pixel width by print width and pixel height by print height. The smaller result is the effective resolution used here. Cropping can reduce the available pixels, so calculate from the cropped image. DPI describes printer dots; PPI describes image pixels. Authors often use “DPI” for this check.
A worked example
A 2400 × 3000 pixel image printed at 8 × 10 inches gives 300 PPI in both directions. Enlarging it to 12 × 15 inches lowers that to 200 PPI. Changing a resolution label alone cannot add detail.
Before you use the result
The 300 PPI target follows KDP’s image guidance. Resolution does not measure focus, compression damage or color accuracy. Inspect the original and a printed proof too.
